A Parade, A Protest, A Procession

A funeral for tyranny.

Today there will be a parade in Washington DC. A celebration of ego, of power, of all the ways one man can rule another. A twisted abuse of military honor in the service of one man’s puerile dream: For superiority, for dictatorship, for entitled cruelty.

Today there will be protests. In every corner of this country people will rise to say NO KINGS IN AMERICA. No royalty, no sovereign, no power above the people’s democracy. A clarion call for every man’s dream: For freedom, for self- determination, for survival.

I do not wish for battle. I wish for something more.

That Military Might and the People’s Fight combine.

That men and women of all colors and cultures; all backgrounds and beliefs join forces.

May we turn this into a funeral procession for tyranny, a denial of dictatorship, a resounding chord that ends this tragic detour into darkness.

May it bring us home again to the complicated beauty of the Constitution, to the challenge of strengthening its wisdom, restoring its intent, and building a new America on its blueprint. Our founding fathers trusted us to do no less.

May we not disappoint.
